Famous Places

This page is my attempt at listing historical, famous, or interesting “off the beaten path” places in Arizona. I have also listed some interesting famous people that are from or live here.

Jerome – Maynard James Keenan, the lead singer for the bands Tool and A Perfect Circle, lives in Jerome, AZ. The 89A is a gorgeous drive through a winding mountainous road, to the hillside city of Jerome. It is a fun little road trip, at about two hours away from Phoenix by car.

Todd McFarlane – The creator of the movie Spawn and several lines of collector’s toys lives in Ahwatukee (close to Phoenix and Tempe).

Cortez High School – Before there was Marilyn Manson, there was Alice Cooper who attended this high school. He formed his first band here, the Earwigs, who later became the Alice Cooper Group.

Alice Cooper’s Town – A downtown bar/eatery that Alice Cooper devised. This place is not goth in the slightest, just famous.

Stevie Nicks – The original gypsy lady in black lives in Phoenix and can be spotted around town.

Jenna Jameson – She lives in Scottsdale AZ and can be seen around town. She shops at the Scottsdale and Biltmore Fashion Square. She owns the strip club, Babe’s Cabaret. She’s definitely not goth, but shes in the porn industry and thats good enough for mention on here.

Barbara Eden from I Dream of Jeanie was born in Tucson, Arizona.

John Huhges, the director for the 80s teenybop movies like Pretty in Pink, The Breakfast Club, and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off attended ASU in Tempe.

The director Steven Spielberg lived here as a young child.

Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure was filmed around Phoenix, including Metrocenter mall.
